Blog Assignment #1

This personal blog is intended to analyze and write about a new type of literacy Gregory L. Ulmer called "electracy." ENG1131 is a non traditional Enlgish class that stresses the transition between print literacy and the emerging culture which is saturated with electronic media. In this class we will compare different types of writing allowing one to form an opinion and create meaning. The blog will be used as a reflection tool and also allow one to create multimedia forms of writing. We will combine what we learn in class with material we learn outside of class and attach an image relating to the blog. The blog will be updated every Friday at 5:00pm. Classical composition skills will be taught through modern web design, blogging, and "photoshopping." Social networking sites are extremely fascinating to me. It's amazing to see how society revolve around these sites and the impact it has had on communicaiton and relationships. Personally this has affected my social life in both a positive and negative way. Although it allows one the opportunity to meet and reconnect with lost friends, face to face interaction has been lost. It's not uncommon for someone to request your friendship without ever talking to you. Until now, when was this ever acceptable in our society? Films are a great way to express a message through an artistic media. It's an escape from reality that has the potential to touch millions of lives in a unique way. Every person has his/her interpretation of a film and different emotions are conveyed. The film industry is one that is constantly going through changes and adapting to technological advances. I chose this image because it combines both of my fascinations. The ability to reach out to millions of film and web users is amazing to me. Facebook has become a scary tool and is slowly taking over. What started off as a spontaneous idea, allowed a struggling college student to become the youngest billionaire in history.
